The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has described the security forces as a symbol of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s “authority and security”.
Speaking on Sunday in a meeting with senior commanders and managers of police and security forces, the Leader emphasized that the most important responsibility and task for the security forces is to establish security – and that includes personal security of individuals, collective security of society as a whole, and ethical, spiritual, and psychological security.
The leader added: “A prerequisite for establishing security is to have a strong and capable police force, but this strength must be accompanied by justice, understanding and kindness”.
In further remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said no level of security should be “high enough” for police and security forces, and security forces should always be trying to make society more secure. The Leader pointedly added: “Members of society must feel secure, people must feel secure, security is not just a “campaign slogan” or a theoretical concept, people must feel secure in practice”.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader the Islamic Revolution said: “We don’t want a police force as portrayed in Hollywood movies, or an arrogant police force which exists in many Western countries, such as the United States, because that kind of police force, and policing methods, will only lead to dissatisfaction, and protests, rather than genuine security”.
Elaborating further, the Leader said treatment of African Americans by US police is an obvious example of oppressive, unfair, and heavy-handed policing methods which creates more problems than it solves.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei added: “Even though the President of United States is himself an African –American, Black people are unfairly treated, harassed and humiliated by US police , something which has led to unrest and protests throughout the United States”.
