Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Police Chief Brigadier-General Majid Karimi underlined the considerable sensitivity shown by the country’s police in the fight against drug trafficking. 


Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Police Chief Brigadier-General Majid Karimi made the remarks in a meeting with Head of the Iranian pilgrims Hojjat al-Islam Seyed Abdolfattah Navvab in Tehran on Sunday.


“The high sensitivity shown by police towards even carrying a gram of narcotics by the passengers is done on the hand with the purpose of safeguarding the dignity and prestige of Iranians and on the other with the aim of preventing very severe consequences and repercussions that other countries consider for drug traffickers,” Brigadier-General Karimi said. 


He pointed to the presence of skilled and experienced personnel capable of identifying the culprits at the airports where pilgrims and their luggage arrive, as well as using technical equipment and drug detecting device, and said that the law enforcement forces stops and prevents pilgrims with even one gram of narcotics for their personal use and introduces them to the judiciary. 


Brigadier-General Karimi also pointed to setting up of a joint workgroup with police forces of countries accepting pilgrims and suitable cooperation with them, and said that there are severe repercussions awaiting the offenders who neglect the laws of those countries. 


He pointed out that the police forces of the countries hosting pilgrims are equipped with the state-of-the-art apparatus and instruments that can easily detect and identify the narcotics being carried by the pilgrims.


Brigadier-General Karimi also said that heavy punishments are awaiting those who ignore the laws of the countries hosting the pilgrims so that they will be severely punished. 


He, meantime, voiced his forces’ full preparedness to cooperate with Supreme Leader’s representative office and Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization for conducting safe journeys and without any problem for the pilgrims. 


During the meeting, Supreme Leader’s representative in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs and Head of the Iranian pilgrims Hojjat al-Islam Seyed Abdolfattah Navvab thanked police for its efforts to fight narcotics.


He said that the Iranian pilgrims should pay attention that things such as narcotics will affect their dignity. 


“It is quite evident that if anyone is addicted to narcotics in the caravans, he will created problems and nuisance for himself and others accompanying him during Hajj rituals,” Hojjat al-Islam Seyed Abdolfattah Navvab said. 


The head of Iranian Hajj pilgrims said that in case of discovering any amount of narcotics inside the country, the pilgrim will surely be banned from pilgrimage and he will face the consequences. 


Supreme Leader’s representative in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs also by referring to the conducted planning for better and more arranged holding of Arbaeen ceremony, said that the Iranian pilgrims wishing to travel to Iraq do not need visa, but for rendering all-out support and providing better services to the pilgrims it has been decided that under the auspices of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, the Iranian pilgrims of Ataba’at to be dispatched during Arbaeen and on the bases of the lists prepared for caravans.


Brigadier-General Karimi, meantime pointed out that Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Police has programs for providing optimal services for Arbaeen rituals.
