Islamic State (IS) militants have arrested scores of Mosul residents for celebrating the Islamic Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official from Mosul Saeed Mamuzini said that IS announced on Wednesday that people are prohibited from celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday as it is against Islam.

He revealed that the insurgents carried out a massive operation later and arrested 118 people in different neighbourhoods of Mosul for violating the rules and commemorating the day.

IS extremists believe that there must be no innovation in Islam and no religious ceremonies are allowed except those mentioned in the Qur'an.

Thousands of people are being repressed by the brutal rule of IS both in Iraq and Syria. Implementation of Sharia [Islamic law] as it allegedly was implemented thousands years ago is the premier policy of IS.
